The Exhibition

Sandi Hartling’s new installation, anything at all, features a group of LED “neon” signs in the Grafton St. Entrance of the Confederation Centre Art Gallery. The directness and immediacy of the bright and colourful signs contrasts with the ambiguity of their text-based messages, in what the artist describes as an ongoing “inquiry regarding sense perception and its role in knowledge acquisition.” Sandi Hartling is a Prince Edward Island interdisciplinary artist whose work explores the philosophical and scientific perceptions of truth. This interest often translates into installation, performance, documentation, and text based work. Although it strives for simplicity in format, her work complicates understanding through the application of abstract communication, often resulting in comical and anticlimactic outcomes.
