Remember the Choose Your Own Adventure books? Let’s try that with knitting sculptures. Come play around with a ball of wool, a set of double pointed needles, a couple of stitch holders, some wire, and some stuffing to create your own knitted sculptures. Cast on, knit a bit, and then select a card to find out what to knit next. No two sculptures the same!
Prerequisite skills:
- basic knitting skills
- comfort with using double pointed needles
- willingness to play
Materials and tools;
- Bring your own set of double pointed needles 4.5 – 5.00 mm
- All other materials and tools will be supplied. (We’ll be using Briggs and Little Heritage two ply wool with recommended needle size 4.5 to 5.00 mm.)
Jane Whitten is an experimental knitter and basket maker presently living in North Bedeque, Epekwitk/PEI. Jane describes herself as a dysfunctional knitter. Yes, she can knit socks and sweaters but would rather try to knit things from the natural environments she loves to explore. She feels that knitters are uniquely positioned to use their needles to help spread social, political, and environmental messages.
Young knitters under 15 are encouraged to join, and we ask that they have some knitting experience and are accompanied by an adult.
