Confederation Centre of the Arts Announces Clancey Hall as Part of the Centre’s Rejuvenation

Leadership gift by the Clancey family marks major investment in arts and culture on Prince Edward Island

Charlottetown, PEI — The Confederation Centre of the Arts is proud to announce that the new rehearsal hall being built as part of the Centre’s Rejuvenation Project will be named Clancey Hall, in recognition of a transformational leadership gift from longtime patrons Kevin and Karen Clancey.

This significant investment, made through the Centre’s Shared Voices Campaign, represents a major commitment to the future of the arts and culture sector on Prince Edward Island. Clancey Hall will be a purpose-built space for creativity, education, mentorship, and artistic development, supporting artists at every stage of their journey.

“This naming recognizes a family whose longstanding commitment to the Confederation Centre reflects a deep understanding of the transformative power of the arts, and the role of the Centre in PEI,” says Steve Bellamy, CEO of Confederation Centre of the Arts. “The Clancey family’s leadership gift will help ensure that artists and students have access to the spaces they need to learn, create, and innovate. Clancey Hall will also play a vital role in the development of new Canadian content and as a convening space for important conversations about Canadian confederation.”

For Kevin, his relationship with Confederation Centre began at the age of six, shortly after his family moved to PEI. Early experiences like visits to the library, shopping the Pinch Penny Fairs, and performances such as Are You Lonesome Tonight? sparked a lifelong admiration for the Centre. That connection grew even stronger through their daughters, Megan and Fiona. After seeing Anne of Green Gables—The Musical™ as toddlers, both girls developed a passion for the performing arts. They danced on the Sobey Family Theatre stage and later performed as Children of Avonlea, experiences that wove the Centre into the fabric of their family life.

Karen, who volunteered during their daughters’ recitals, recalls the warmth of the Centre community. “It’s a very special place,” she says. “And being able to see your children on that stage is a treasured memory.”

The Clanceys see their support of the Shared Voices Campaign as an investment in future generations of artists, ensuring young people have access to spaces for innovation, learning, and creative expression.

“We were impressed with the vision behind the Shared Voices Campaign,” Kevin adds. “It stays true to the Centre’s original mission while evolving to remain relevant in the 21st century. This commitment to adapting the Centre as a space for diverse expressions is vital for engaging younger generations and the many visitors who come to PEI and connect with these experiences.”

With the creation of Clancey Hall, that legacy will continue by bridging past and future, and inspiring artists and audiences for generations to come.
