(Charlottetown, PE) – The Honourable Lawrence MacAulay, P.C. was recently appointed as a governor to the national board of directors at Confederation Centre of the Arts, bringing a remarkable legacy of public service to his new role.
Board chair, Bob Sear, remarks, “We are honoured to welcome Lawrence MacAulay to the board at the Confederation Centre. His unique history of service and experience will help the Centre navigate as we renew our connections to the rest of Canada.”
Representing the riding of Cardigan, Prince Edward Island, Lawrence MacAulay served in the House of Commons for an unprecedented 36 plus years, making history as the longest-serving Member of Parliament from the province. Over the course of his distinguished career, he held numerous senior cabinet positions under Prime Ministers Jean Chrétien and Justin Trudeau, including Minister of Labour, Solicitor General of Canada, Minister of Veterans Affairs, and twice as Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food.
A lifelong Islander based in Midgell, P.E.I., Hon. MacAulay’s deep understanding of Atlantic Canada and his longstanding commitment to community development will be invaluable for the Centre. CEO Steve Bellamy adds, “Lawrence MacAulay has served Islanders and Canadians in so many ways over the decades, by working in the highest offices of the country, and at the same time being a champion of local and regional community. His decades of leadership position him as a trusted voice and advocate for the values that guide the Confederation Centre, and we are grateful to welcome him aboard.”
“I am very pleased to be joining the Confederation Centre at this important time in their history. The Centre is vitally important to PEI and Atlantic Canada, to both the economy and to the culture and history of Prince Edward Island. I’m looking forward to working with them as they chart the course for the future.” – The Honourable Lawrence A. MacAulay, P.C.
