March Art Lotto Artist Announced

March 2, 2023 – Island residents have the unique opportunity to win a specially curated piece through an exclusive art lottery.

Friends of Confederation Centre of the Arts are hosting Art Lotto, a fundraiser to support arts education programs at the Centre as well as Island artists. Each month a unique piece from an Island artist will be raffled off via a limited number of $20 tickets.

March’s featured piece is a pair of paintings named Cedar View 1 and Cedar View 2 by Norma Jean MacLean. She describes these two paintings from her Cedar View Series as, “focused on observed dwellings in which aesthetic landscape elements compete with the practicality and functionality of the home”. The paintings feature towering cedar trees that obstruct the view from a house.

MacLean is a visual artist from the Island with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. Her paintings and site-specific installations have been featured in Charlottetown’s Art in the Open Festival, the 2019 Confederation Centre Art Gallery exhibition Who’s Your Mother, and the 2013 Montreal group exhibition The Painting Project. A Snapshot of Painting in Canada (Galerie de l’UQAM).

Lottery tickets for this month are on sale through March 31, or while supplies last. There are 100 tickets available each month. Tickets can be purchased online, via phone at 1-800-565-0278, or in person at the Centre’s box office while supplies last.
