Hilary Pearson Joins Confederation Centre of the Arts Board of Directors

(Charlottetown, PE) – Hilary Pearson, C.M., was recently appointed as a director to the national board of directors at Confederation Centre of the Arts, bringing a wealth of philanthropic experience to the role.

Board chair, Bob Sear, states, “We are so pleased to welcome Hilary Pearson to the board at Confederation Centre. Her far-reaching experience in philanthropy and community engagement will augment the depth of the Centre’s board as we fulfill our mandates across Canada.” Centre CEO, Steve Bellamy, adds, “We are grateful to have Ms. Pearson joining the Centre during this rejuvenation period. She brings a unique set of skills from considerable experience in governance and strategic planning – particularly in the not-for-profit sector and will help us chart the path into the future.”

Ms. Pearson brings over two decades of leadership in Canadian philanthropy to the board, most notably as the founding President of Philanthropic Foundations Canada. For nearly 18 years, she worked closely with the country’s largest private foundations, advising on strategy, governance, and effective giving. A respected voice in the sector, she has authored numerous articles, spoken internationally, and developed key guidance documents for funders across Canada.

Appointed to the Order of Canada in 2018 for her impact on the philanthropic sector, Ms. Pearson has also advised the federal government as co-chair of the Advisory Committee on the Charitable Sector. She has served on the boards of national organizations including Imagine Canada, the Stratford Festival, CARE Canada, Indspire, and the Canadian Cancer Society. She is also currently Chancellor for Brock University

Ms. Pearson holds a BA and MA in Political Economy from the University of Toronto and has received honourary doctorates from Carleton, UNB, and Mount Allison. Coincidently, her grandfather, Lester B. Pearson, placed the cornerstone for Confederation Centre in October 1964.
