If you’ve ever admired a poster, program, or digital graphic from the Confederation Centre and thought, “Wow, that looks great,” chances are you’ve seen Dale McKie’s work.
Dale is the Centre’s Graphic Designer, and as of Valentine’s Day, he’s been with the Confederation Centre for four years. With a sharp eye for design and a deep love of the arts, Dale helps shape how stories are visually told across the organization.
When he’s looking for a moment of calm during a busy day, you’ll often find Dale taking a quiet walk through the Art Gallery, a space that continues to inspire him both creatively and personally. Among the many exhibitions he’s experienced there, the “Generations” exhibition stands out most. With its powerful and diverse collection of artwork, it left a lasting impression and remains a favourite memory.
Fuelled by creativity and caffeine, Dale’s go-to afternoon pick-me-up is a Nespresso Stormio dark roast, black. Strong, straightforward, and perfect for powering through an afternoon of design work.
When it comes to unforgettable performances, Dale loved the Live at the Centre show with Bahamas and Logan Richard opening. It was a pairing he calls a perfect match and an amazing show. Music plays a huge role in his life, and if there were a soundtrack to his time at the Centre, it would be “Payday” from Tell Tale Harbour, a song he’s sung, hummed, whistled, and belted out more times than he can count.
One lesson Dale carries with him from his time at the Centre is simple but powerful.
Sometimes the biggest impact comes from what you don’t do.
And when asked to sum up what the Confederation Centre means to him, his answer speaks to the heart of the organization.
“The Confederation Centre will always be a beacon to artists of all disciplines from all across this country.”
