Confederation Centre Reopens to the Public

– LIVE @ the Centre programming to return this month –

February 9, 2022 – Confederation Centre of the Arts is open to the public, and resuming regular operating hours. This follows the latest guidance and updates from the Chief Public Health Office (CPHO).

LIVE @ the Centre will return to the stage February 24 with a performance from Haitian-Canadian artist Wesli. The JUNO Award-winning multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter fuses afrobeat, reggae, and Haitian rara into a rich and energetic sound. Wesli and his band will deliver a festive and uniquely engaging performance at The Mack. 

Hitting the mainstage on March 2 is Ballet Kelowna: MAMBO and Other Works. Performed by one of British Columbia’s top ballet companies, this eclectic production features a meticulous blend of contemporary and neoclassical works by Canada’s leading dance makers. The high-energy program will include: the thrilling tango-inspired Cuatro Estaciones, the mesmerizing Bolero, and vivacious audience favourite MAMBO.

“It has been a few years since the Centre has hosted a large professional dance company like Ballet Kelowna,” says Darcy Campbell, director of LIVE @ the Centre. “These are two great shows to restart our season, and we are thrilled to welcome people back into our space.”

The following changes have been made to the LIVE @ the Centre lineup:

Ensemble ALKEMIA – February 11 – CANCELLED
David Myles – February 13 – POSTPONED (new date TBA)
Jah’Mila – February 19 – POSTPONED (new date TBA)
Wesli – February 24 – NEW DATE

Two new exhibitions at the Confederation Centre Art Gallery are now on display, with two more opening soon:

Danika Vandersteen: How to Convey Blue in Black and White – Now open
John Hartman: Many Lives Mark This Place – Now open
Visible Storage: A CCAG Collection Project – Opens February 19 
The Secret Codes: Quilts from and inspired by Nova Scotia’s Black communities – Opens February 25

“We are installing our fourth of five new exhibitions of the season, so it is a perfect time for regulars and new patrons to visit,” says Gallery director Kevin Rice. “There is such an exciting range of artists on display this winter.”

As per the latest guidelines from the CPHO, events taking place during step one of the province’s transition plan will be at 50% of venue capacity.
