Confederation Centre of the Arts mourns the passing of Charles F. Scott

Confederation Centre of the Arts is mourning the passing of Charles F. Scott, who passed away on August 30, 2022, at the age of 74. Charles was a long-time supporter of the Centre, serving as a board member from 2005 until 2019, when he was appointed governor. Charles followed in the footsteps of his father, Charles F. Scott Sr., who was one of the original board members for the Centre, and after whom, along with wife Pauline, the Charles and Pauline Scott Courtyard is named. “It is with deep sadness that we reflect on the passing of Charles Scott,” says Board Chair Bob Sear. “He was one of the Centre’s most passionate and committed members, and we will greatly miss his enthusiasm and spirit.” Charles had an illustrious career as one of Canada’s leading commercial litigators. He was called to the Bars of Ontario in 1974 and Alberta in 1982, and appeared in the Supreme Court of Canada, in all levels of the courts in Ontario, and made occasional appearances to courts in six other provinces, including Prince Edward Island. Charles was passionate about artistic programming for young people and helped support the Centre’s choral music programme and Young Company. He anonymously sponsored young artists to help them on their way, and enjoyed touring the Confederation Centre Art Gallery every time he visited.  Charles was a very active and engaged board member, serving on the National Vision Committee, the Symons Medal Committee, and the Major Gifts & Endowments Committee. Charles was also generous by introducing his considerable networks of friends and connections to the Centre over the decades. “Charles Scott leaves a great legacy of friendship, generosity, wisdom, and mentorship at Confederation Centre of the Arts. He has been an exemplary board member – always engaged and involved with supporting the Centre,” says CEO Steve Bellamy. “We have so much to be thankful for – from when Charles first joined the board in 2005, through to 2022 when he proudly welcomed his daughter Heather as a member. We will always be grateful for his outstanding support.” Confederation Centre of the Arts board and staff extend sympathies to Charles’ wife Cathy; their children, Charles, Heather, and Jennifer; and the entire Scott family. A funeral service will be held at Lawrence Park Community Church, 2180 Bayview Avenue, Toronto, on Friday, September 9 at 1:00pm.
