The Centre for All Canadians

The Centre’s response to COVID-19 | Réaction du Centre à la COVID-19

Each year the Confederation Centre Art Gallery presents an average of 20 exhibitions featuring the works of Canadian visual artists. The Gallery itself has four main exhibit spaces on two levels plus smaller exhibit areas in the entry and the Centre’s concourse. As well, a collection of public sculptures can be found on the Centre’s outdoor plazas. Almost all exhibits are documented and available via our online archives.

Expect to see a mix of traditional art forms such as painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, and sculpture, plus newer digital media presentations, installations employing diverse technologies and contemporary interdisciplinary practices.

The Art Gallery has a national mandate to develop appreciation and understanding of Canadian visual arts and the collection and programming reflect on Canadian identity and the origin and evolution of the country. Since the Gallery opened in 1964, its permanent collection of Canadian art has grown to over 17,000 items, counting works of art, artifacts, and documents. The Robert Harris (1849-1919) Archives is a significant component of the Gallery collection and includes Harris’ sketches for the iconic Canadian history painting, The Fathers of Confederation.

Please join us in an engaging and continuing conversation about Canadian art and the ideas that artists pursue. The gallery is a public space for your engagement with art and ideas – admission is by donation – and we hope you will visit often.
