Anne of Green Gables – The Musical™

Running Time | 2 hrs  36 min | 20 Min Intermission

She is back! After a two-year hiatus, P.E.I.’s most iconic redhead returns to The Charlottetown Festival.

This family musical tells the poignant and funny story of a freckle-faced, red-haired orphan named Anne Shirley who arrives at the Bright River Railway Station full of hope for a new life. Her destination is the home of brother and sister Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert in Avonlea, Prince Edward Island. When she arrives at Green Gables, Anne is devastated when she discovers that the elderly couple is expecting a boy from the orphanage, and then ecstatic when they decide to keep her. With her fiery temper, love of melodrama and romance, and penchant for misadventure, she brings laughter, love, and more than a little consternation to the Cuthbert’s quiet lives. In return, Anne finds the happiness and the home she has longed for all her life.

With a company of 28 amazing Canadian talents and a 14-member live orchestra, this Canadian classic has delighted millions of people at Confederation Centre. Anne of Green Gables – the Musical™ is a humorous, touching, and truly athletic musical that will inspire your imagination, tickle your funny bone, and mesmerize you with its graceful and exhilarating singing and dancing.

“Overflowing with talent…wildfire that can’t be missed.” – The Guardian

“Vibrant, exciting, heartwarming…inspired direction by Brazier. Anne is still P.E.I.’s most welcome summer visitor.” – The Buzz

“The new elements also do something that is essential to the original novel, they create a sense of the scale of time that has elapsed, so when hearts swell or break or stop, you understand the weight of it.” – The Guardian

Sensitivity Warning: Strobe lighting & light haze effects are used in this production

What are Relaxed Performances?

Sometimes referred to as sensory-friendly experiences, Relaxed Performances give the opportunity for those with various sensitivities towards sensory stimuli to experience and enjoy live theatre.

These performances will be designed in a way to be more comfortable for audience members who may experience anxiety or are not comfortable with some aspects of a traditional theatre setting. This can include people on the Autism Spectrum and their families; those with sensory and communicative disorders or learning disabilities; people with Tourette’s syndrome; someone who might need to move often due to chronic pain or to use the facilities; or even parents with toddlers.
