The Confederation Centre of the Arts Honours Multi-Generational Legacy Gift with Naming of the Charles and Pauline Scott Family Courtyard

Charlottetown, PE – Confederation Centre of the Arts is proud to announce the naming of the Charles and Pauline Scott Family Courtyard, recognizing the enduring, multi-generational support of the Scott family and their significant contribution to the Centre’s Shared Voices Campaign.

Originally dedicated in 2016, the courtyard adjacent to Mavor’s Lounge, has now been formally rededicated to reflect the continued generosity and leadership of the Scott family, whose recent collective gift of $400,000 reinforces a decades-long commitment to the Centre and its national role in arts, culture, and dialogue.

The Scott family’s connection to the Centre began with Charles F. Scott II, an original board member, and continued through Charles F. Scott III, who served on the board from 2005 until his passing in 2021. The family connection continues today with Charle II’s grand-daughter, Heather Davidson, who currently serves as board director.

A respected commercial litigator, Charles III was also a passionate advocate for young artists, supporting programs such as the Centre’s choral music initiatives and Young Company, often providing assistance to emerging artists behind the scenes.

The courtyard naming also honours Pauline Scott, whose legacy, alongside her husband Charles II, remains foundational to the family’s connection with the Centre.

“The Confederation Centre has been a cherished part of our family since its inception, and as the third and fourth generations of Charles and Pauline, we’re thrilled to make this contribution to the Centre,” said Davidson. “It’s a wonderful way to honour Granny’s and Grandpa’s legacy and see their impact continue through the naming of this beautiful space. In today’s world, the arts are more important than ever, as they foster dialogue and create meaningful connections between people. It’s an honour to be a part of the next chapter of the Centre’s story.”

“Charles Scott II worked with Frank MacKinnon and Eric Harvie to create this national memorial, and the Scott family legacy with the Centre continues three generations later,” said Steve Bellamy, Confederation Centre CEO. “This naming honours their deep belief in Canada and the power of the arts to bring people together. We are so grateful to the Scott Family for their ongoing support and meaningful involvement with the Centre.”

Today, that spirit of generosity continues through multiple generations of the Scott family, whose shared gift reflects a broad and deeply rooted commitment to the Confederation Centre. Contributors include:

The Charles and Pauline Scott Family Courtyard is between Mavor’s Lounge and the Frederic S. and Ogden Martin Concourse Gallery. An intimate outdoor space, long serving as a place of gathering and connection, the courtyard stands as a lasting part of the Centre’s original 1964 design. Through the Shared Voices Campaign, the Scott family’s gift honours that history and helps sustain the space as part of the Centre’s evolving future.
