Charlottetown, PEI — Confederation Centre of the Arts is proud to announce that Pan Wendt, Director at Confederation Centre, has won the PEI Book Award for Erica Rutherford: Her Lives and Works. The win is a landmark moment for the Centre, and a testament to the fact that the impact of Confederation Centre extends beyond the theatre stage and into the cultural, intellectual, and artistic life of Prince Edward Island and Canada.

Award-Winning Work: Erica Rutherford: Her Lives and Works

Erica Rutherford: Her Lives and Works is a richly detailed biography celebrating the remarkable life of Island artist Erica Rutherford. The book traces Rutherford’s journey across continents and creative disciplines, offering an intimate portrait of one of PEI’s most beloved cultural figures.

The book features essays by exhibition curator Pan Wendt, curators Ray Cronin and John Geoghegan, gender studies scholar Eva Hayward, and film historian Peter Davis, as well as an interview with Gail Rutherford, the artist’s widow. The PEI Book Awards jury recognized Wendt’s work as an outstanding contribution to Island literary culture.

“Winning the PEI Book Award for Erica Rutherford: Her Lives and Works is an incredible honour. Erica’s life was as vivid and layered as her art, and I hope this book does justice to her extraordinary legacy. I am deeply grateful to the jurors for this recognition and extend my heartfelt congratulations to all my fellow nominees,” said Wendt.

Also Recognized: Dr. Jeffrey F. Collins Shortlisted for Canada’s Defence Procurement Woes

Dr. Jeffrey F. Collins was also shortlisted for the PEI Book Awards for Canada’s Defence Procurement Woes, a timely and incisive examination of the challenges facing Canada’s military procurement system. The book offers a comprehensive analysis of the systemic issues, policy failures, and potential paths forward for one of Canada’s most pressing national security concerns, bringing rigorous policy scholarship to a broad readership.

“When you live in a province with such a vibrant literary community like PEI’s, it means a lot to be shortlisted for the PEI Book Prize. A big thank you to the Prize jurors and congratulations to the other nominees,” said Dr. Jeffrey F. Collins.

The PEI Book Awards celebrate outstanding literary achievement by Island authors. Confederation Centre of the Arts congratulates Pan Wendt on this well-deserved win and Dr. Collins on his shortlist nomination, and encourages the Island community to celebrate PEI’s literary scene.
