Confederation Centre of the Arts welcomes new board members

October 23, 2024 – Two new board members were recently appointed to the national board of directors at Confederation Centre of the Arts – Tom Dunne of Stanley Bridge, Prince Edward Island joins as a governor, and Joanne Hames of Halifax, Nova Scotia joins as a director.

“Both Tom and Joanne are community builders who share a love of the arts. They bring significant experience from different sectors, and we are thrilled to welcome them to the Centre,” says Centre board chair Robert Sear.

Centre CEO Steve Bellamy adds, “We are grateful to welcome Tom and Joanne to the board. All members of our volunteer board do tremendous work governing this national living memorial, and building relationships across the country to bring diverse perspectives to the table. The Centre is embarking on an exciting period of growth. It is where Canada connects – a cultural convenor for dialogue on an evolving country, and a national stage for thriving artistic expression.”

Brigadier General (retired) Tom Dunne is currently the president of TP Dunne Consulting Inc., where he assists companies in the defense and security fields. He also remains active as a sessional instructor at the University of Prince Edward Island, teaching strategic management, negotiation, and conflict management. Tom retired from the Royal Canadian Air Force after a career as a pilot in search and rescue (SAR) and transport operations with the C130 Hercules. He currently volunteers his time as a Director for PEI on the Canadian Forces Liaison Council, and as a governor on the Holland College Board of Governors. Tom holds a Bachelor of Engineering and a Master of Public Administration from the Royal Military College as well as a Master of Arts from King’s College London. He has logged over 5000 flight hours and holds a US and Canadian Airline Transport Pilot Licence. A fan of the arts, he plays trumpet with the Holland College Community Band and the Great George Street Brass Band.

Joanne Hames is a business professional specializing in family business dynamics, human resource management and communications. Joanne was previously a member of the Board of Governors with NSCAD University, serving as chair of the Human Resources Committee and as a member of the Audit Committee. She has an MBA from the Ivey School of Business and the Institute of Corporate Directors designation from the Rotman School of Management. Joanne is devoted to supporting the visual arts in Canada and lends her time and energy to enhancing pediatric healthcare for patients and their families in Atlantic Canada through organizations like Ronald McDonald House Atlantic and Brigadoon Village. Joanne lives in Halifax with her husband and three children. Joanne and her family are longtime supporters of Confederation Centre of the Arts, and she is incredibly proud to carry on the tradition.
