This concert is also the last for Maestro Mark Shapiro, as he concludes his decade-long tenure with the PEI Symphony Orchestra.
The concert starts at 2:30 pm. Please also join us for a pre-concert talk with Music Director Mark Shapiro at 1:30 pm — this is a great way to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for the music you are about to hear.
This year marks the PEISO’s 55th concert season, taking place entirely at Confederation Centre of the Arts. In 1967, the PEI Symphony Orchestra was established to present high quality, live orchestral music to audiences here in Prince Edward Island, to provide practical training for young PEI students to learn and perform orchestral music, and to provide gifted Island musicians an opportunity to perform with a large orchestra.
Each year, the orchestra’s four-concert season features a mix of cherished classical repertoire and daring new works by acclaimed modern composers. World-class soloists from across the continent are often featured as well as promising young talent from within the region, and pops concerts have featured the likes of David Myles, Tara MacLean, Paper Lions, Ten Strings and a Goat Skin, and many more.
A season subscription grants patrons access to the best seating at the best price for all four concerts and includes additional perks throughout the year. Visit www.peisymphony.com for more information on all PEISO concerts and activities.
