The Maud returns for a late-night performance at The Mack

– Concert takes place September 16 –

The beloved variety show from The Charlottetown Festival company returns this month for a late-night performance at The Mack.

Back for its 44th edition, the Maud Whitmore Benefit Concert (The Maud) is a one-night-only event known for its wide range of performances – from music to dance to comedic pieces – from members of The Charlottetown Festival company, and occasionally some Confederation Centre of the Arts staff.

The Maud will be hosted by Aaron Reid Ryder, who is currently performing in The Play That Goes Wrong and MAGGIE at The Charlottetown Festival.

“As an Islander, I’m delighted to be part of this beloved tradition. The Maud gives performers a chance to showcase other sides of their repertoire, which makes for a memorable show full of surprises,” he says. “The Maud also is an important fundraiser and a chance for our artists and the community to help encourage the development of Canadian theatre talent. Audiences can expect unique performances from some of their favourite Festival performers.”

The Maud Whitmore Benefit Concert raises money for the Maud Whitmore Scholarship Fund at The Charlottetown Festival. These scholarships help theatre artists, both emerging and established, pursue professional training in a variety of disciplines.

This concert is named after the late Maud Whitmore, a veteran Canadian actor, who endeared herself to Festival audiences from 1965-77 as Rachel Lynde, in Anne of Green Gables–The Musical™. Her years of commanding performances inspired many to pursue careers in musical theatre.

The Maud takes place on Saturday, September 16 at The Mack. Doors open at 10:45 pm, with the show starting at 11:15 pm. A limited number of tickets are on sale now for Centre members. Remaining tickets open to the public on September 2. Tickets can be purchased online at, via phone at 1-800-565-0278, or in person at the Centre’s box office.

What are Relaxed Performances?

Sometimes referred to as sensory-friendly experiences, Relaxed Performances give the opportunity for those with various sensitivities towards sensory stimuli to experience and enjoy live theatre.

These performances will be designed in a way to be more comfortable for audience members who may experience anxiety or are not comfortable with some aspects of a traditional theatre setting. This can include people on the Autism Spectrum and their families; those with sensory and communicative disorders or learning disabilities; people with Tourette’s syndrome; someone who might need to move often due to chronic pain or to use the facilities; or even parents with toddlers.

I agree to receive further communications from Confederation Centre of the Arts for upcoming events, promotions and market research purposes.
