Le Centre pour tous les Canadiens
About The Centre

At Confederation Centre of the Arts we celebrate the origins and evolution of Canada through a rich variety of heritage and arts programming. We aim to inspire Canadians to consider our country’s past, present, and future through performing arts, visual arts, and interactive learning experiences – truly the Centre for all Canadians.

The Centre acknowledges that the land on which it operates is the traditional unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq. We acknowledge with respect, the history, spirituality, and culture of the Mi’kmaq people—who have lived here for over 15,000 years.

A Quick Look

The Centre opened in 1964 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, to commemorate the historic 1864 Charlottetown Conference.
The massive complex is located in the heart of Downtown Charlottetown with soaring architecture and outdoor plazas, taking size of a full city block.
A non-profit charity organization, the Centre is officially recognized as Canada’s memorial to the Founding Fathers.
The Confederation Centre Art Gallery’s (CCAG) permanent collection includes over 16,000 works of historic and contemporary art by Canadian artists.
The Charlottetown Festival is noted for its first-class musicals, most famously for Guinness-record setting Anne of Green Gables–The Musical™.
The Festival has run every summer since 1965, producing more than 85 original musicals.
The Centre operates year-round, including arts education and visual arts programs, and fall and winter concerts and performances.
Sobey Family Theatre seats 1,100 people on two levels, and was substantially restored and modernized in 2014.
Opened in 2015, The Story of Confederation exhibition is a realistic and immersive replica of the original Confederation Chamber, where the Fathers first met at the 1864 Charlottetown Conference.

What are Relaxed Performances?

Sometimes referred to as sensory-friendly experiences, Relaxed Performances give the opportunity for those with various sensitivities towards sensory stimuli to experience and enjoy live theatre.

These performances will be designed in a way to be more comfortable for audience members who may experience anxiety or are not comfortable with some aspects of a traditional theatre setting. This can include people on the Autism Spectrum and their families; those with sensory and communicative disorders or learning disabilities; people with Tourette’s syndrome; someone who might need to move often due to chronic pain or to use the facilities; or even parents with toddlers.
