The Centre for All Canadians

Elan MacKey

Elan was born and raised in a small island in the Bahamas. Though small, the island never lacked opportunity for entertainment. At a young age she fell in love with the tropical vibrant cultural shows, acrobatics, Trapeze artist and fire dancing.

She has worked full-time as an Entertainment Host and Fire Dancer at Sandals Royal Caribbean and Aura Nightclub at the Atlantis as well as other Hotels and Small Resorts among the chain of Islands through the Bahamas. She has trained in all styles of dance in the Bahamas as well as Malone Studios (Nashville Tennessee) favoring Afro Jazz, Modern and Fire Dancing. Since 2012, Elan has been the choreographer for The Bahamas All Star Marching Band, performing most notably at the Macys Day Thanksgiving Parade, St Patrick’s Day Parade (Ireland), Florida Classics and most recently Dubai. She has performed with the Miami Heat Dancers, as well as danced alongside Grammy nominated artist and producer Sketch, Julien Believe and other Bahamian artists featuring in music videos and Broadcasted Commercials.

In 2017, she moved to Charlottetown where she enrolled and graduated from the SoPA dance program at Holland College. Currently an emerging artist and assistant choreographer for Oshun’s Dance, Elan has performed at the Roma Heritage Festival, Diversity Festival, Black Cultural Society and River Clyde Pageant. She is thrilled to be working with the amazingly talented staff and kids at the Confederation Center of the Arts.

What are Relaxed Performances?

Sometimes referred to as sensory-friendly experiences, Relaxed Performances give the opportunity for those with various sensitivities towards sensory stimuli to experience and enjoy live theatre.

These performances will be designed in a way to be more comfortable for audience members who may experience anxiety or are not comfortable with some aspects of a traditional theatre setting. This can include people on the Autism Spectrum and their families; those with sensory and communicative disorders or learning disabilities; people with Tourette’s syndrome; someone who might need to move often due to chronic pain or to use the facilities; or even parents with toddlers.
